Candidates for First Reconciliation and First Eucharist must have participated in regular religious education or attend Catholic School for the year preceding enrollment for preparation for First Eucharist. (In other words, these children were part of a formal first-grade faith formation experience.) Likewise, candidates for First Reconciliation and First Eucharist must be currently enrolled in regular religious education or attend Catholic School. Older children who have not as yet received either Sacrament are most welcome to register.
Registration for both sacraments takes place now in January. Preparation for First Reconciliation will begin in January and students will celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation in March. Preparation for First Eucharist will begin in March, and students will celebrate the Sacrament in early May. Students are required to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation prior to receiving First Eucharist.
The Pflaum Sacrament preparation program will be used for both First Reconciliation and First Eucharist. Children are expected to work through these at-home materials with a parent. There are 6 lessons for each Sacrament. An online quiz (with the results sent to the Faith Formation office) is required after the completion of each lesson. There will be at least two online Zoom meetings during the preparation period for each sacrament. There will also be one in-person “rehearsal” for each Sacrament.
The material fee for sacramental preparation is $25 per child per sacrament (i.e. one child doing both First Reconciliation and First Eucharist would be charged a fee of $50).
